I love history! And when something from the past grabs my attention, I dig and dig until I find the human story behind the details. I write novels, picture books, and biographies for children and young adults, and like to use what I learn about the past in my stories.
I grew up on a farm in New Hampshire where we had sheep, pigs, ducks, geese, a goat and some horses. We made maple syrup and spun our own wool.
When I was 11 years old I won the Smiling Cup at summer camp.
Here are some of the books I loved when I was a kid:
The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander
Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh
The Secret Language by Ursula Nordstrom
My favorite color is purple.
I do most of my writing in our wonderful town library and in the messy office in our house.
I have a dog named Grace, a cat named Nolan, and another cat named Sausage.
They like to bother me when I write!
I studied International Relations at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. In July, 2019 I will graduate from Vermont College of Fine Arts with an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults.
